Hipcamp Field Scout | Over Jordan Farm

I recently teamed up with Hipcamp to be one of their field scout photographers and I spent my first assignment camping for two nights with my family at Over Jordan Farm in Flint Hill, Virginia, which is located just outside the gorgeous Shenandoah National Park. If you're unfamiliar with Hipcamp, you can basically think of it as the Airbnb for camping and outdoorsy getaways: i.e. camping and glamping! Over Jordan Farm is a 200+ acre farm with gorgeous rolling hills, surrounded by woodland and looking out to the mountains of Shenandoah. The Jordan River runs through the property, hence the name! This is nothing short of an idyllic place to camp. The hosts, Betsy and Michael, were wonderful and made us feel so welcome on their land, right down to the fresh eggs we were able to collect from the chickens each morning!

We attempted a camping trip one year ago over Memorial Day weekend and I won't sugar coat it - it was a nightmare. It rained almost the entire time, our borrowed tent leaked, which meant we were soaked most of the time and we spent more time trying to keep our almost-two-year-old out of trouble (and the fire!) than actually enjoying ourselves. This year we were prepared with reliable gear and the kids being one year older made a huge difference. It rained again for some of the weekend, but overall everyone loved it...luckily!

Dinner time!

That's my girl! She's got the touch!

Running naked and wild before bed time.

Good morning! Day #2 was foggy and wet, but at least we had coffee!

There's just something so satisfying about cooking on camping trips. I love the simplicity of it. I stood just watching the percolator do it's thing; observing the steam against the gloomy morning fog. Almost meditative.

Fresh eggs for breakfast! Laid just minutes before by the farm hens.

We spent the rest of day 2 exploring the farm, venturing to the farmers' market in the quaint town of Little Washington, hiking and generally trying to stay dry from the rain. We had to eat dinner in the tent, but luckily it held off enough for us to have another fire that night.

Good morning! Day 3 was off to a foggy start but sunshine was on the way!

Off to the barn to gather our breakfast. Thanks, girls!

My wild little bedhead beauty.

Finally! The fog and mist lift and the sun is coming out to play!

My girl and I are off to explore more of the farm and get some more photos while the boys finish tearing down the tent and packing up to head home.

The cutest little guest cabin on the property.

And the cutest little sandy beach and lake!

Love this wild child of mine.

Another great adventure in the books! Until next time, Over Jordan!
